From the Tempest to the Tower

By Kathryn Taylor

In the sea of life I’m just a wave,
Tossed in the tempest deep,
Driven by winds and tides of life,
Crying oceans as I weep...
A raging storm when anger flares...
Invisible doldrums… I can be~
I carry surfers safely to shore,
Or can wreck ships out at sea...
I’ve sought to change so many times,
To escape my watery grave...
But the undertow pulls once again...
Refusing to release it’s slave~

One day, my Lord will come and say,
When I’m ready... “Peace! Be still!”~
He’ll gently lift me with His love
And place me upon a hill...
On a firm foundation He will change
A wave into a tower...
A beacon of light will shine from me,
Piercing darkness by His power~
Then I will stand... strong and firm,
Through storms and darkest nights...
Never again to toss to and fro,
But instead...be a guiding light~

My life is so often in such turmoil... I feel like a wave tossed to and fro, making me a poor example for my family... I long to be a lighthouse, a strong tower, instead of being the storm...
So often in life, I feel like a wave at sea.  I have very deep convictions and beliefs and I constantly find myself driven by emotions.  I do things spontaneously... often regretting it.  At times, my behavior creates the opposite of what I truly wish to gain.  Life is a journey though... not a destination.  I do know and believe that the closer I cling to God, the better choices I make.  I would much rather be a lighthouse helping those around and being a comfort to those in need.  Being a wave has positive and negative aspects.  I can be calm (ok, not very often). I can be fun.  But being a wave can also be very destructive when things are stormy and anger rules.

Parenting kids that are full of anger definitely need lighthouse parents.  It is a goal to strive for.  No one is perfect.  All of us will fall short, especially if the children you parent never give you a break.  Strive to stay close to the Master... the creator of the Universe... God Almighty.  Rely on His Holy Spirit to keep you full.  None of us can ever gain everyone’s acceptance or understanding... not even Jesus did or could.  If He cannot, we will never come close.  We must seek God’s acceptance.  Our hearts must be pure before Him.  Our repentance of sin needs to be sincere and remorseful.  And, like His Word tells us, never, never give up.  It’s never over til it’s over.  We can never be so bad that He just gives up on us.
God bless

Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming.  Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
Ephesians 4:14-16

But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.  That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.  Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.
James 1:6-8
